Elephant report

We have been learning to write animal reports. First you need a title, then an opening statement,  paragraphs about the animal and a closing statement, I hope you like it.

Elephants

Elephants are large mammals that eat peanuts and they are very big.

Appearance: Elephants have long tusks that grow until they die. Elephants have giant floppy ears, and a huge trunk, a fat grey body, and they make a funny sound. They have big strong legs.

Elephant types: Elephants come in 2 types. The species are the African elephant and the African forest elephant and the Asian elephant. The Asian elephants are often called the Indian elephants. The African elephants are the largest elephants. They have large trunks and ears.

Feeding: When elephant calves stop taking milk from their mother, they become plant eaters or herbivores. Calves stop drinking when they’re three years old. When elephants eat they use their trunk to reach the food off the trees. Sometimes their mothers pull down branches for their babies.

Threats: Sadly the number of elephants in the world has gone down. People have killed a lot of the African elephants. The people who have killed the elephants did it for their tusks. During the 1970s and 1980s lots and lots of elephants were killed.

Did you know that elephants make rumbling sounds to communicate because they can not hear. The rumbles can be heard by other elephants as far as 9km away.

How to throw a shot put

How to you throw a shot put

Have you ever wonder how to throw a shot put? A shot put is a small heavy ball.

First you get your heavy grey ball. You have to hold the ball with your palm and fingers and put it between your neck and shoulder, with your elbow out.

Then you spread your legs. They have to be shoulder width apart from each other. If your are right handed your left leg goes to the back. If your are left handed your right leg goes back. Bend back your leg that is at  the back.

After that you twist your body at the hip so you are facing to the back. The hand that doesn’t have the ball points in the direction you want to throw the ball.

Finally you twist to the front and push the ball into the air and see how far it goes.

This is how to throw a shot put.

The dance of the honeybees

Walking in a season

Pat Pat Pat the snow danced down to the ground. Quietly I walked in the snow around the wiggly path. The wind whispered to the trees as I quietly run across the soft snowy path. The roots on the trees twisted around my ankles as I nervously walked across the still path.

Partly cloudy

We watched a short video called Partly Cloudy. We had to write descriptive sentences about what happened using adverbs as sentence starters.

Partly Cloudy

Quickly the white birds flew down to the rusty old houses.
The bag wiggled as the strong birds flew down to the rusty old houses.
The soft new kittens meowed as they landed on the doorsteps.
Noisily the dogs barked as they got let out of the clean bag to run around.
The houses smiled as the cats landed and began to sleep inside the houses.
Quietly the fluffy clouds whispered to the happy birds in the pink sky.
Softly the birds landed on the soft white fluffy clouds.
The happy clouds wiggled quickly to get the job done.
Noisily the baby's cried like snow falling down onto the ground.
Happily the clouds floated in the pink sky light.
Sadly the little grey rain cloud tried to do what the pink fluffy clouds did.
Happily a bird flew over to the sad grey cloud.
Sadly the bird flew to deliver the sharp toothed crocodile in a stinky bag.
Sadly the bird flew with the big puffy ram in a little old bag.
Nervously the bird pinched the top of the rusty old bag.
Angrily the rain cloud destroyed the baby shark with it’s strong grey hands.
Suddenly the rain cloud cried like a baby wanting a bottle.
The brave bird flew back to the big grey rain cloud with a pink fluffy bag.
Happily the big rain cloud was happy again and made a slimy electric eel. Buzzzz buzzzz!!!

Narraitive

We have been leaning how to write a narrative here is mine

Shipwreck

Long long ago there was a poor family who had a group of poor friends. They lived on an island with leafy trees. They ate fish for breakfast, morning tea, lunch time and dinner. They spent their day catching fish and enjoying the sun.

One day they saw a ship heading towards the island. They decided to prepare themselves and made traps out of weeds and leaves. The ship was getting closer. Suddenly smash it hit the shore…..
Boom Boom!!! guns shot everywhere from the ship. They came out with weapons and swords. FIGHT!!! The big challenge was on. They forced the pirates to their traps.

Suddenly crash!!! The pirates fell into the trap. “Hooray!” shouted the family and friends, “we got the Pirates!!!”
“Get us out, we will be good!” screamed the pirates.
“You promise,” said the concerned family and friends. “Yes, we promise,” shouted the pirates altogether.

So the family let them pirates go and they became friends. They all sailed back home on the pirates ship and lived happily ever after.

Swimming Assessment

Te Ahuahu Trip

Bump Bump “Are we there” I yelled. “Yes we are there” smiled Mrs Clarke. We rushed to the mountain. “Off you go!”shouted Mrs Whitelaw. “Hooray!” shouted the school. Stomp Stomp. Cow poop was everywhere!!!!! I saw dirty grass. I heard cars going vroom vroom. I heard kids going chatter chatter. Then a man arrived and told us a story about the grassy Te Ahu Ahu mountain.
Finally it was time for lunch. Creep Creep. “Ahhhhhh!” screamed Piata. A big black spider was on her.  “It’s ok,” whispered Mrs Clarke. “Time to go now,” shouted Mrs Clarke.  Everybody ran down the grassy hill. The cows went moo moo. “Mrs Whitelaw, can I go on the bus?” I asked.  “Yes,” smiled Mrs Whitelaw.
“Yay!” I shouted. Vroomvroom. Off we went. I smiled.
Slam! The bus driver put the brakes on.  One of the parents voices echoed down the bus.
We’re at school. “Hi Sara,” announced Louisa.  “How did you get here?” I asked. “It’s a long story,” replied louisa. “Let’s play,” I screamed.
Ring ring!!!! I ran to class and jumped on the floor. It was time to go home.  “Bye Mrs Craig!” shouted the class.

I walked out of class. I felt sore and tired. I walked into the Library and sat down quietly.

Autumn cameo

Showing our Writing Process - Write Draft / Edit and Polish / Publish
Written Language - Cameo
Learning Intention: I am learning how to use appropriate and effective similes in my cameo writing.
Success Criteria:
I am able to find and highlight similes in a cameo and explain why they work.
I am able to write appropriate similes for objects in my cameo.

Here is an example:
WINTER
Winter blows its cold breath everywhere.
The early morning frost greets you like being welcomed onto the marae.
The wind howls in the freezing air like a stray dog hungry for a bone.
Snowflakes flutter like leaves falling from autumn trees, covering the ground with a white sparkling blanket.
The trees become bare, brown bones standing like statues admiring the view.
Heavy rain falls from the sky like a thousand hooves pounding against the ground.
Chilly bitterness in the air, winter is here.

Here is my draft piece of writing!

                      Autumn

Leaves fall like a butterfly landing on a flower.
Trees sway in the wind like a tornado.
Wind howls like a dog in trouble.
Leaves crumble like a piece of paper torn up.
Leaves cover the ground like a colourful blanket.
Mornings are cold like a fresher.
Trees become bare like a bone.
Dews sparkle like a gems that’s just been polished.
                    Autumn is here.

Here is my published piece of writing.

Autumn

Leaves fall from the tees like a feather from a bird.
Trees sway like a piece of paper blowing in the wind.
The wind howls like a dog in trouble.
Leaves crumble like a piece of paper being scrunched up.
Leaves cover the ground like a colourful blanket.
Trees become bare like a bone.
The dew on the leaves sparkle like a gem that’s just been polished.
                    Autumn is here.

This is my story about my Easter weekend l hope you like it.

My Easter holiday with my cousins

Splash! My cousins were playing in the shimmering pool at my house. My sister and l were playing on the shady deck.  My cousins mum and dad were talking to my mum and dad on the deck. shiver shiver. I was playing with popcorn seeds and pretending it was cute little tadpoles. Drip Drip, my crazy cousins hopped out of the pool and changed into their cuddly clothes.

“Guess what?” said mum, “It’s Easter.” “Yay” l shouted.  Mum had hidden Easter eggs for a Easter hunt. We wrote our names on a zip up bag to collect our eggs. We followed my mum to the stunning tall trees and hoped over the rusty old fence. Suddenly one of my cousins shouted, “I’ve found an Easter egg.” There were four Easter eggs to find each but my other cousin found six eggs.

It was the best Easter egg hunt ever.

Volcano.

This is my moment in time about the volcano erupting.

Boom Crash! Sizzle sssssssss Bang!!!! Bang!!!!!! Rocks shot out of the volcano. Boiling hot lava slithered everywhere. Little small stones raced down the twisting path. The tall firing volcano was erupting. The lava was sparkling. The lava was still slithering like a snake. The stones were still rolling down the dry smooth path. Little flames floated up like little bubbles into the steaming blue sky. Rumble Rumble skreeeeeeek.
