Learning Journey Post 3

Hi fellow bloggers
Day 3 Activity 1
In this blog post I had to say how I would feel about joining a large family. Here it is.

I would not like to be part of a large family of nine because I am a quiet girl. We would need to have the same amount of food each and I like to eat a lot. That's why I don't want to be in a large family. One sister is OK for me.

Day 3 Activity 2

In this activity I had to write my pepeha.  It was really hard but I did some of it, so here it is. I missed a few things out because my family is not Maori.

Ko ? te maunga
Ko ? te awa
Ko ? te waka
Ko ? tōku tīpuna
Ko ? tōku iwi
Ko ? tōku hapu
Ko ? tōku marae
Ko ? ahau
Ko Nicola rāua ko Bart ōku mātua
Ko Sara tōku ingoa.

Bonus Activity
In this bonus activity I had to ask three family members what their two favourite things to do in
the summer are.

1. Swimming and Play

2. Going to the Beach and Fishing

3. Swimming and Camping

Learning Journey Post 2

Hi Fellow Bloggers

Day 2 Activity 1
In this Learning Journey task I had to compare a wharepuni to my house. Here are my two similarities and differences.

Similarities: They are both made of wood. They both have the same shaped roof on the top.

Differences: My house doesn't have carvings and the wharepuni does. Wharepuni is made out of ferns, rushes and bark and the walls are made out of timber but our house isn't.

Day 2 Activity 2
In this task I had to draw my dream job so here it is. It's me singing.

Bonus Activity
For this activity I had to take a picture of my favourite food and tell why I like it so much. Here it is.

I like pancakes because you can put lots of yummy stuff on them like.... banana, syrup and cinnamon.

Learning Jorney Post 1

Hi fellow bloggers
Day 1 Activity 1
I am doing the Summer Learning Journey this holidays. My first blog post is about the first settlers. I had to write 3 facts I learnt from the story I read about Maui and the Giant Fish, so here are my 3 facts.

1. He ignores his mean brothers.

2. He catches large fish.

3. He has cunning plans.

Day 1 Activity 2
For this task I had to write a letter to my friend about how I feel about moving to a new country. Here is my letter to my friend.

Dear Louisa
I am moving to a new country on a waka. I am nervous because I will miss my family. When we sleep the water could get rough and the waka could tip over and I will get all wet.
From Sara

Bonus Activity
In this activity I had to watch a video of a Waka Ama race and explain why or why not I want to be in a Waka Ama race. Here is what I think of a Waka Ama Race.

I would love to be in a Waka Ama race it would be so fun because I will get to meet new friends and do team work with them.

Investigating Body Organs

Hi fellow bloggers,
Last week, my class and I went to Life Education in the Harold mobile classroom and learnt about body organs. This week, Miss D brought in some lamb organs and we had to guess what they were. We got into groups and we dissected them and poked them with our toothpicks. My group got a lamb heart. We cooked the lamb heart and ate it. I did an acrostic poem here it is with a picture.

Warden Descriptive Writing

This term we have been reading a book called Holes by Louis Sachar.  Miss Dixon gave us a task that included drawing a picture and writing three sentences about one of the characters in the book. We wrote sentences about the Warden, Here is my descriptive writing.

Freckles covered her face like a blanket. Long curly red hair stood behind her back like a silent soldier. As she walked she was playing her favourite country music. The white shirt had rolled up sleeves. Green eyes shined in the sun. Tall as a tree and skinny like me. Lets kids have the day off if they find something interesting. Does a very good job being a Warden. Lips are honey coloured. Sometimes she can be a little mean. She is a female. Fiery red nail polish on her finger nails.

Using ideas from our senses to write Show not Tell sentences.

We are learning how to add description to our writing by including ideas from our senses and creating Show not Tell sentences. We did a language experience with Skittles in class and got to hear, smell, touch, see and taste them.

5 Senses Writing

Hi Fellow Bloggers

We have been learning our 5 senses. The 5 senses are sight, taste, smell, feel and hearing. We had to use the 5 senses in our writing. Here is my work,

Paradise Walk

Walking down the sandy beach with the sand squishing between my feet. Birds were chirping up in the palm trees. Palm trees were swaying lazily side to side in the cool summer breeze. For some reason  the sand tasted weird. The smell of the salty sea water nearly pulled me in for a swim. The sea was sparkling in the sunshine as I walked by. The warm air softly landed on my smooth face. I wish I could live here forever it’s, paradise.
